Using Virtual Translation Booths for Live Simultaneous Interpretation

At Livecast Media, we are aware of the complexities of generating multilingual copies of your live streams in real time. That’s why our engineers have built Virtual Translation Booths to take away the stress from your team. 

No more carrying multiple encoders to the field. No more extending cables between portable audio mixers, headsets, video switchers! Those days are over.

A virtual translation booth is an add-on which can be added on top of your existing event setup when needed. Once you create a translation booth and share its link with your translators, the translated stream will be generated for you on the fly during your event.

Here is how it works:

• Create a new RTMP channel (either using Vimeo or Livecast Media) to distribute your translated stream and embed its player into the event page as a new language. Once you do that your event page will start displaying a new button to allow viewers switch between different streams without leaving the event page.

• Create and configure a translation booth for your event. Visit Channel Settings tab on Livecast Media's dashboard to do that.

• Once the booth is created, it will provide you an address for RTMP input. Forward a copy of your original stream to this address. You can do that by configuring a new custom RTMP endpoint for your live channel on Vimeo, or by adding a new mirror destination if you are using a Livecast Media RTMP channel.

• Add your translators’ email addresses to the virtual booth (up to 2 translators per booth) and send invitation emails using the built in send email button.

• Your translators will then receive emails with secure access links to the booth. They will access this page during the event to do the translation work. The translated stream will be delivered to the RTMP endpoint that was configured in step 1.

It’s that simple! Your translation booth will stay active for 3 days, so you can continue using the same booth in case your event spans over more than a single day. 

What About Sign Language?

Livecast Media's translation booths work for sign language interpretations too. If you configure your booth for sign language, we will use your translator’s video instead of audio. The live interpretation will be placed on the lower right corner of the original video.

And finally, yes, we do allow adding multiple booths for an event so you can easily host events with several languages.
